What's an Old Salt?

Saturday, May 20, 2017

Do You Know? • Why the club was changed from the original design (Cape Cod) of our Clubhouse to the present design? • There was a submarine under the dining room of the clubhouse? When did you join Berkeley Yacht Club? Was it 1992 or before? You are an Old Salt and you have made Berkeley Yacht Club into the club it is today. We recognize members at 25 years, 30 years, 35 years, 40 years and 45 years for their continued participation in the club activities. Berkeley is proud to honor 4 New Old Salts this year plus our most senior members Larry and Billee Telford with 51 years of membership. You should have already received an evite inviting you to our annual Old Salts dinner on Saturday, May 20th, cocktails at 1800 and dinner at 1900. We will be honoring some of our members for their years of membership and contributions to Berkeley Yacht Club. There are many stories to be told and photos to see. The whole idea behind establishing a yacht club in Berkeley was to provide an organization and clubhouse where dedicated sailors and boaters could gather and enjoy comfortable surroundings after a wild day on the bay and swap their “sea stories”. Nothing has changed much in the 78 years we still tell our “sea stories” after a wonderful day on the bay. Dinner will have an Italian theme with antipasto platter, salad, Chicken Cacciatore on a bed of pasta, vegetable and a delicious dessert. As always fish or vegetarian options are available. Cost is $20.00 per person and Old Salts are our guest for dinner. Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, May 20th. Betty Gray Staff Commodore 2007
