Cruising
Sunset cruise

Ten times each year BYC boats head out for San Francisco Bay Area destinations in an organized club cruise. Locations range from nearby yacht clubs, the Delta, and an annual trip that heads out the Golden Gate, usually to Half Moon Bay or Drake’s Bay.

The Memorial Day weekend cruise led by the Rear Commodore heads to more distant locations like Petaluma YC or the Napa River. The annual Up River Cruise over the July 4th Holiday, led by the Fleet Captain, finds BYC members enjoying the warmer weather and water of the Delta for three or four relaxing days away from the usual bluster of waters closer to home!

The annual cruising schedule is published at the beginning of each year so it’s easy to plan your participation well in advance. A cruise leader is assigned for each trip and you’ll find them well prepared with information about the destination, tides, charts what to do when you get there and readily available to all details. To get involved just pick a trip and sign up on the monthly cruise registration which is always posted on the bulletin board in the Club. Then prepare to have fun and enjoy the friendship of fellow boaters. Some yacht clubs prepare dinners for us and sometimes we organize cook-outs and restaurant events. Be prepared for a good time and lots of new adventures!

Some people choose to buddy boat or crew on a more experienced boat in the beginning and there are always some “land cruisers” who drive their rubber tired craft to join in the fun. Whatever method you choose, your participation is always encouraged.

Cruisers

It’s a great way to have additional fun, learn new skills, explore new places. And note that a lot of BYCs worldwide cruisers got their start in this very program!
