Special Amendments to

Chowder Race Sailing Instructions

December 2, 2007 (following the Commodore's Ball)

All sailing instructions from the regularly scheduled BYC Chowder Race apply. In addition, the following rating credits shall be subtracted from the TCF for boats competing in the Commodore's Hangover Class:

1) 0.01 for each person in the crew in attendance at Commodore's ball

2) 0.02 If the skipper and at least one of the crew were "a couple" at the

Commodore's Ball.

3) 0.01 if the skipper was observed to have a "noted glow" at the

Commodore's ball

4) 0.03 if the skipper slept on a boat in the Berkeley Marina after the

Commodore's ball.

5) 0.02 if the skipper is still "glowing" from previous night or in an obvious

state of pain as a consequence of the night before.

6) 0.02 for each crew wearing same attire from commodore's ball.

7) 0.04 for each crew wearing date's attire from commodore's ball.

8) 0.02for each person in the crew who is a past Commodore of BYC.

Rating credit (1), (2), (3) and (4) shall be verified by the outgoing Commodore (or delegate thereof). Interpretations of "noted glow" are entirely at the discretion of the outgoing Commodore. Rating credit (5), (6), (7) and (8) shall be verified by the incoming Commodore (or delegate thereof). Rating credits (6) and (7) shall not be given if the attire during the race is not, in the judgment of the incoming Commodore, suitable for the Commodore's Ball.

Skippers or crew judged to have a "noted glow" shall not drive home after the Commodore's Ball. A number of members' boats will be available for emergency accommodations if competitors are not able to sleep on their own boats or do not have a designated driver.

Note that subtracting 0.01 from the TCF (time correction factor) is about the same as a 6 second per mile rating credit. Assuming a four person crew, the maximum possible credit is 0.44. This would result in a time credit of about 53 minutes over a two hour race.

The Commodore's Hangover Trophy will be awarded to the first boat on corrected time, after adjusting for all applicable credits. All competitors will also be scored in the regular fully-crewed Chowder Race, but without special event rating credits.
