East Bay Artists' Art Opening

About the artist: Anne just moved her studio from Oakland to her backyard and continues to make art in addition to her work as an art curator for the city of San Pablo. She describes her work as meditative.  In order to break the patterns our mind usually makes, she endeavors to make random strokes in her paintings so that she can control the reactive habitual tendencies that arise.  In meditation, the point is to let your mind settle into its natural state and let pure awareness arise. There can’t be any concepts and manipulation or the intent is defeated.  So in placing the brush strokes completely by chance and avoiding any patterns one’s mind can effectively settle into a quiet state and awareness is hopefully achieved. It’s tricky.
