About the event
We'll hear from Megan and Polo, two Cal Sailing Alumni, who are returning to the Bay Area after a year of low-carbon travel - including a transatlantic crossing! They're joining us to share tactical tips and learnings from their sail-hitchhiking travels, where they spent five months thumbing rides from Montenegro on the Adriatic Sea all the way across the ocean, through the Caribbean, and up to Florida!
Megan and Polo are self-styled 'climate explorers' - they lead expeditions across the world that rely on human and nature-powered travel (including our favorite form, sailing!) to advocate for climate solutions. We're meeting them here in Berkeley near the beginning of their Green Journey Across America - a first-of-its-kind attempt to ride solar-powered trikes across the entire USA. You can learn more about it at thegreenjourney.org and follow along at instagram.com/thegreen.journey.
Doors open at 6:00 PM for networking and drinks, followed by a presentation at 7:00 PM where Megan and Polo will recount their crossings. They'll share tips on how to get started with longer overnight passages (even when you don't have your own sailboat!) as well as share about climate solutions they've encountered on their trip. Join us as we send them off in style for The Green Journey Across America, where they'll ride solar bikes from San Francisco to New York City, riding 4,500 miles across 20 states in the quest to showcase the power of solar across the USA!
Join us for cocktails starting at 6 pm; talk begins at 7 pm.
