The Sailing League West Coast Championship at St. Francis Yacht Club on May 3-4, was as challenging as I expected this year, and the results reflected that. The first day was a bit rough for sea state and competitively, but our BYC team mounted a strong turnaround Sunday securing tight leads, winning several starts, and even notching a bullet. The format featured a rotation of teams across four boats in a series of short races, where strong starts were critical to success.
We were really tested under pressure, especially when leading downwind, where some communication breakdowns led to costly mistakes. Still, we earned the respect of our competitors, made new friendships, and even got asked to race back east by Bay Head Yacht Club.
Zach Parisa and Andrew Haggerty sailed really well, you could not have asked for better effort. This was a strong tune up for the Lipton Cup when the entire BYC racing team will compete for three days.
A heartfelt thank you to the St. Francis Yacht Club for hosting such a fantastic event, along with an outstanding race committee. Events like this require an incredible effort from dedicated volunteers, and their hard work truly made it a memorable experience. Hats off to the entire team.
