After what many would say feels like the longest month known to human history, January is now behind us. The Board of Directors has also been assembling a list of projects and priorities for 2025.In December’s column, I announced the BYC Satisfaction Survey.
The aim of this survey is to help us understand how we did last year and to guide our efforts for the upcoming year. BYC is your club, and we need your input to ensure we’re prioritizing the areas that will make the club a better value for you.
To that end, you may have noticed there has not yet been an announcement on the Officer of the Day program this year. This program is mandated by our bylaws and is meant to serve a variety of purposes: welcoming guests and visitors to the club, enforcing the rules as the ranking member of club leadership, and yes, in the old days before Responsible Beverage Service certificates, bartending. We are taking a close look at the OOD program to ensure it works for everyone while also meeting the needs of the club. In previous years, the club began offering a great amount of flexibility in how members could serve their OOD duty, and I hope to continue making it easier and more fun to serve in 2025. The state of our club is strong, thanks in very large part to the entertainment and event infrastructure that S/C Mary Garfein solidified last year in conjunction with our bartender team, Director Judy Lee, Director JP Camille, and of course Paul Kamen’s movie nights. Thanks to this group and others, we have events every Friday and Chowder Races every Sunday. Our club manager Elizabeth, along with our bartenders Kopi and Lisa, have even been making chowders and soups from scratch! If you haven’t been to a Chowder Sunday, you have a handful left before we transition to Friday night Beercan Racing. Come on down, and relax with your fellow Berkeley Yacht Clubbers!
