Meet a BYC Member: Vice Commodore Roger Mason

Who is this Vice Commodore?

Ahoy, yacht mates, I am Roger Mason. Let me tell you a little about this person you voted for. I have been a devoted member for almost 6 years. I spent a portion of my childhood right here on O-dock in the mid 70s, serving as a Sea Scout on the 73 foot Naval Submarine probing vessel named the USS Northland.

During my 3 years as a Sea Scout, I learned to sail 4 different types of small crafts, which earned me a rank of Sr. Boatswain. Later, after high school and during college, I continued sailing with friends on a Catalina 27 around the bay and up into the delta during the summer.

Ok, so what have you done for this club? In my almost 6 years here at this club, I have served on the Board of Directors as a Fleet Captain/Rear Commodore, and now Vice Commodore. During my time on the board, I have helped put a race committee volunteer rotation list together for both beercan and chowder races. I helped bring the summer kids camp back to the club in 2023 after Covid. I have helped with putting together the member dinners and entertainment as well as guest speakers. I am currently handling all the maintenance around the club to provide a safe and comfortable environment. Lastly, along with board member and good friend Scott Barnes, we have enhanced and brought the ship store apparel up to date.

Now, who am I?

I am Santa Claus!
